Hero Dog Takes Bullet for Family
One family may have their own guardian angel--and she now walks on three legs instead of four.
Charlie was at home with her human family when two intruders broke into the home, firing shots at her and the other two dogs in the home. The three dogs chased the intruders out into the street, and Charlie was shot in two different legs.
Charlie's owners say that if not for her bravery and for standing in the line of fire, those shots could have hit one of their children instead.
Her owners were unable to afford the emergency veterinary care Charlie required, so thanks to the efforts of a shelter technician, she was matched up with an intervention program that helps owners find resources for their pets. The group was determined to get Charlie the medical attention she needed so that she could be reunited with her family.
With the help of some generous donors, more than $8,000 was raised to help get this canine hero the medical attention she desperately needed. Charlie underwent surgery to have one of her legs amputated, and she is on her way to a full recovery. Her owners say she is the same happy-go-lucky dog, and that they are overwhelmed with gratitude for the many people who stepped up to help them keep their beloved hero dog.
