Treating broken nail

Post by Esprit64 »

Hello: My dog's nail split high, exposing the quik. Anyone have good advice on how to treat this? Thanks.

Assuming it's not too bad...to stop the bleeding, use a little bit of cornstarch and press it into the nail gently, which will help the blot clot. If it's bleeding profusely and not clotting, please see your vet.

Soak in salt water for 10 mins (feels like a long time!) twice a day for about four days. If the nail is split high up, nail varnish will hold it together as it grows out, but first do the salt water thing, and if in doubt go to a vet.
