licking paws -- fear allergies, need advice

Post by thepennywhistle »

Hi all,

I need to ask for assistance from your collective wisdom once again. Two of my collies
have suddenly begun washing their feet constantly and occasionally nibbling at the toes.
I fear allergies as a culpret. No indoor changes of cleaners or anything, no carpeting in
my house, and this is high desert area, so not much in the way of growing things. I
fear it may be in the food. Can anyone tell me what the most common food/additive
allergies are? I'll start eliminating the most likely as fast as I can research other food
brands.

It also started right after my big guy Piper was put down, so I suppose it could be a stress
reaction, but I'm not counting on that one.

Thanks!

Many of the hypoallergenic dog foods avoid using wheat, corn, and soy as they are common allergy triggers.

Could also be harvest mites.

Eww. I've not heard of harvest mites by that name, but I dislike
bugs in general, and I'd hate for the girls to have mites in their
toes. (Dogs, stay away from my bed!) Guess it's time for another
trip to the vet, and to start looking for a hypoallergenic food :(
