Yay, BoardHost has had a quiet chat with the magical forum hamsters, and the gnomes that grind the gears round... and we can have avatars now!
To give yourself a display picture/avatar at the right hand side of each post under your name, go to your User Control Panel (theres a link, top left of your screen under where it says 'Board Index....'), then from there go to the Profile tab, and from there choose Avatar settings on the left.
You can upload your avatar directly from your computer or you can host it somewhere online and enter the URL for it.
Whichever one you choose make sure your avatar is 80 x80 pixels or less and under 6KB or it won't work. If you upload a URL for your avatar from a hosting site such as Photobucket or flickr, do remember that if your account becomes inactive (photobucket) or you move the picture you will have to change the URL here or your avatar will no longer display.
Remember also - your avatar represents YOU, so choose wisely!
Editing posts: All users can now go back and edit their posts for typos/errors!
If you have any problems editing a post, or uploading an avatar, or making an avatar the right size, post on here - I will leave this thread stickied here in General Chat for a while for future reference.

Re: Avatars and editing posts...
I was able to post an avatar but I can't see where the edit function is. Am I missing it, like I missed the "unread posts" link on the old board?

It took me a lot of resizing and editing, but i finally got my avatar. I like avatars so now we have a picture in our minds of how we are talking to through our dogs.

OK, I can make my pic smaller but i can't change the size of it to less than 6Kb, any ideas how I do this?
Re: Avatars and editing posts...
I had trouble with this too. I just kept on resizing and eventually got under 6KB.Horace's Mum wrote:OK, I can make my pic smaller but i can't change the size of it to less than 6Kb, any ideas how I do this?
Re: Avatars and editing posts...
What file type are you saving as? It might be that its too high a quality image.
With my pic... i cropped it to get rid of the unecessary stuff, and then resized the image.
If anyones realllly struggling, send me the cropped image and ill try to resize it (if you pm me the image i can 'steal' it from wherever it is hosted and then i can host it in my photobucket account, give you the link and you can 'steal' it back and host it yourself again, dont leave it with me hosting it though as my photobucket account might fall over!)

Re: Avatars and editing posts...
The photo I wanted as my avatar had a very busy background so I printed it out, cut round Tilly, scanned it then resized it for my avatar. No stupid, busy background
