Bird mites please help!!!!!!

Post by ZaraD »

Hi all

So my nightmare started when I become very itchy in the last few days and am not sure if i am suffering from bird mites biteing me or not? We have only just found out we have mold mites in the house by seeing these little white specks running all other TV , DVD cases, laptop etc but only in the living room and we found mold behind the TV stand. My itching started since iv seen them but mold mites dont bite so am worried it's bird mites. My itching is not constant about 3 maybe four times in an hour that last no more that a few seconds. I don't feel any crawling and don't have any bite marks or rash either. Which iv read bird mite bite marks cause a rash? Could it be bird mites? Do any of you know if you Can see them as some websites say you can see a black or red dot crawling on you or on furniture and others say you can't see them? And can they live off of human blood as some say they can't live off of us for more than around 10 months as they need a bird host to survive hence the name bird mite and others say they can live off of us without a bird host? Any advice to any of this and I would be very grateful! As iv become very suicidal and distressed with it all iv not seen any mild mites sincev and saw tow the other day going out the window so I think because iv got rid of the mold and am vaccuming every day now like a madwomen :D . iv not seen any black \red spots any were in the house but we do have a lot of pigeons that come to the front and back gardens. We don't have any nesting though just visiting?

Itching all over is not good... You really need to see a doctor, though - they should be able to diagnose the cause, maybe by taking a skin scrape, and recommend the correct treatment. This might involve getting a pest company in who can advise on the best approach to ridding anything unwanted in your home.

I hope you can get it sorted soon.

The chances of you getting bird mites without handling birds or routinely going to confined spaces where birds live (for example, roof spaces filled with pigeons) are basically..... nil.

Go and see a Dr please, this forum is not the appropriate place to ask for advice like this and we'd be negligent if we did not make that clear - hope it clears up soon!

Thanks emmabeth.

I'm sorry for posting it and I now I shouldn't really ask things like this but its just when you are so worried and you get really low and depressed about it I just wanted to ask in case anybody had experience of them or if anyone handled birds on the form might have been able to help me.

Hi all

I know I shouldn't be posting about this but with you all giving me advice I wanted to give you an update after seeing the doctor and talking to a pest control company who specialises in bird mites. The company told me you can get bird mites even if not around birds but that is rare cases when the mites and fallen of a bird and go indoors. However he said they are visible and you can see and feel them crawling on you as well as either bite marks or a rash similar to scabies or a bed bug rash\bite. And he said as since as you don't have either that he doesn't think I have bird mites. And the only thing he could find were mold mites but he said they don't bite or feed off blood only mold or fungus. And we're ontop of the mold mites issue. The doctor agreed that it's unlikely that I'm suffering from bird mites however she said it's not dry skin either as my skin is not dry by looking at it and feeling it. She said the itching and redness I had looked similar to that of a Dust and dust mite allergy as most of my itching was on my nose and ears. She has given me an antihistamine and told me to treat all fabric thing including my sofa and bedding , matteress ect. And to clean any dust in my house and clean , hoover daily. The tablet have eased the itching a little bit already.
