walking a yorkie
how many times a day and for how long should you walk a yorkie?
Re: walking a yorkie
How old, how big - yorkies seem to vary from hamster sized things to really quite large terriers!
I would start out with half an hour twice a day, and if that doesnt result in a tired (but not utterly shattered) dog, work up from there until you get a 'tired but not shattered' dog.
If it is a puppy little five minute sessions to get used to the outside world, used to being on a leash and comfortable with the concept of walking nicely on a loose leash (yep this applies to small dogs as well as large ones!) and then build up from there by a few minutes each week until the pup is an adult.
A fit, healthy, breed standard yorkie should be capable of at least an hours walk twice a day and running about killing rats in between. But many many yorkies are not breed standard or particularly fit and healthy.
