Just a quick update. Finally got Rupert's thyroid results back after 2 months (don't ask, I am NOT impressed) and it came back normal as did all his other bloodwork. So god knows what his sudden increase in appetite and energy was, it's gone away now though and he's back to his normal self.

I have no advice to offer, but I am glad that all the tests came back normal
