You welcome the dog into your family.
You give him equal rights.
You spend years learning to understand the dog.
You try hard to even become part dog yourself, and eventually become very proud of how well you know him.
But one day you take a step back and realize that - while your were reading all those books - he has quietly taken over your couch, appropriated your pillow, and now expects a blanket, and to be tucked in...
