Re: All New Diesel Thread - shiny, new and full of positivity!
Exercise does wonders.. Everything becomes easier when a dog is sufficiently exercised (physically and mentally). At this rate of progress Diesel will be taking care of kids soon, not the other way around   Good to see positive updates! Same with people though.. If Ben stops going to the g...

Oh boy... He is so tiny, how do you keep an eye on such small dogs? Our Himalayan cat is 8 lbs, and sometimes she hides somewhere and it takes a while to find her, with everyone in emergency search mode....ClareMarsh wrote: The last time I weighed Ted he was 5lbs

Re: Free running
Hmm... :? perhaps we'll give that park another off-leash try today. It's Monday, kids back to school to study, the majority of "able-body" humans who can make it to the trails should be at work.. Weather is not great, which should keep most of the rest of them and their pooches out. I feel...

Re: Dog refusing to walk up certain streets
For Ari its quite normal to just stop in the middle of the walk. And then he just stands there, ears pricked and looking intensely somewhere. I wait this out, and give him a few minutes to make his decision - is it safe to keep going or not. Sometimes he decides that its ok to trust me and moves on,...

Re: Treat your dog like a dog! Lesson #1
Sometimes you can talk your way out of every dog and fear them all.   Too big, too small, too fast, not fast enough, too smart or independent thinker, or just doesn't look right... I agree - if you can't do it, don't. But on the other hand - it's worth a stretch, and not everything ...

Yeah.. If your dog ran into a skunk and got sprayed - wash the dog in tomato juice, give him tomato juice bath...
I hope we'll never have to test this lovely theory, though
Rupert looks very happy in that field, that's awesome.

Re: Leaky anal glands
If this was normal, there would have been fewer dog owners in this world, I am sure  No, normal is express after poo. In some cases dog's can't always express at that point. There probably could be various reasons. But it's not just smell. If he can't express, glands fill up and this could be q...

Re: Border collie exercise
I think normal weight for an adult border collie is 35-40 lbs.. 70 lbs for a 10 months old puppy is not just larger then others... It's humongous, twice the normal size.. I would consult a vet before introducing any running at all for him. If he is significantly overweight, running may cause damage ...

Re: What a difference a year makes.
Still in the northeast.. No complaints from me on mild temperatures. No complaints from Ari either, for whom light drizzle means immediate cancellation of all outdoor activities.. Our only hope to drag him out in the real winter and snow is his new coat. He is very fond of the new coat, loves ...

Re: Leaky anal glands
We had this with the boy.. Was some sort of AG infection, treated and quickly cured with medication injected through anus. Perhaps this a question to consult a vet about. We do give him pumpKin pure every day, maybe that played some role in avoiding a recurrence, but the original treatment was most ...

Inspired (maybe wrong word... fired up) by "Off-lead time for Casey" thread, Ari and I headed to the largest nature park around. Huge park, a lot of trails, you need a map to navigate through all of them. But it's a gorgeous warm sunny Sunday after Thanksgiving before what promisses to be ...

Re: Beagles parents? Or any 'experienced' to help a newbie
Well.. Experts will be here soon to advise, I can only offer my own 2 cents re: bathroom habits. We got Ari when he was about 13 weeks. He is now 14 months, and in this time we've had no more then 5 instances of him going to the bathroom inside, all of them within the first month or two. The key - t...

Re: Off-lead time for Casey
I am reluctant to let Ari off leash these days, although we did a lot when he was younger. Not because he may take off after an animal. Even if he decides to chase a deer, he will quickly return. Mainly because he may encounter another dog, get into a fight and get hurt, or hurt the other dog, or bo...
