Re: Almost 7 month old Pup
The barking and lunging has been since his odd day, but before then he did start becoming more interested in dogs on a lead again. There wasn't any vocalisation, but he was staring wistfully and sometimes sitting down and refusing to move. Peaking at 10 months? Oh god, I had hoped we were experienci...

Re: Almost 7 month old Pup
Well I made my original post late August, he's now fast approaching 9 months old and... He's back at it again (the barking and lunging). I have no idea why he's slipped back into his old ways, it is still definately excitement since it is still accompanied by crying and whining and almost supersonic...

Re: Advice needed one last time?
I couldn't tell you exactly what they're like in the home because I've never owned one myself, just met alot at parks, group walks, training etc: I do know that of the young ones I've met they get alot of exercise and mental stimulation, and they were show lines. They are also pretty great as passin...

Re: Advice needed one last time?
I've met plenty of goldens young and old. I wouldn't call them hyper at all, and they do seem to be alot more mellow than a lab, but as teenagers they are crocodiles and think its great to jump up and mouth and mug for food. Obviously this is a training / age issue, but there will probably be a poin...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Oh its not just Jasper, Merlin has been hissed at, clicked at (very weird noise they make, like something from the depths of hell!), and paraded at with wings up. If they're in the water he just ignores them, or gets out the water and watches them. He once tried to swim after one, but when the swan ...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2
Living with a dog that is sensitive really does give you an insight into the inner workings of dogs brains! We went to a local nature reserve we've been plenty of times before, nice and quiet in the mornings. Merlin is perfectly fine with all the swans, ducks and geese that swim about. However today...

Re: kibble
Theres plenty good dry foods, but I find that you need to look elsewhere rather than the petshop shelves to get them. Eden do dry and semi moist food which is great, and Millies Wolfheart do really well mixed and tailored dry food with exceptional customer service (about to swap my own dog over to M...

Re: help with rescue
Because your dog has a bit of Lab in there he could be a mouthy dog in general. My own dog is mouthy and basically NEEDS something in his mouth when he's excited in order to control himself. Aswell as doing basically exactly what Jacksdad has said, we were also given the advice to put a toy in his m...

Re: Change of behaviour
I've seen Merlin drag his filled kongs to the door and bark whilst eating them if someone knocks. I don't think even a plate of raw meat would keep him from barking at the door We've gone into a sort of war time black out type scenario at the moment, everything is quiet and dark.

Re: Change of behaviour
He was brilliant on his proper walk. Was calm in himself and wasn't nervous or anxious, wasn't OTT excitable, listened to me, was way, way, waaay less distracted and sniffy, and wanted to play again with me and dogs. I did notice he got tired quicker and slipped back to his old ways of barking at do...

Re: Change of behaviour
So far this morning so good. His eyes are back to normal, he is less OTT, he was able to have his morning nap. Partner said he was fine on his morning poo walk aswell whereas yesterday he told me Merlin was mad. Lets hope he is better.

Re: Change of behaviour
We are to monitor him tonight and if he's not better tomorrow we're need to bring him in. Just took him on a short walk since he seemed desperate, no bowel movements but he barked at a woman, was nervous of children on bikes, and seemed just really on edge. He is normally totally fine with people an...

Re: Change of behaviour
Now that I think about it he did throw up on Saturday, has been eating grass, and has a bad case of the trumps. I've not changed his diet except for the lamb's liver cake (he's normally fine with liver) BUT he is a terrible scavanger and does eat things on his walks sometimes and the other day he pi...

Re: Change of behaviour
More changes. Usually he loves learning tricks with me, but today he seemed OTT. He was barking, whining, biting at my fingers as he took the treats. Just generally OTT. So I stopped that and I also noticed he has been burying his bully stick, which he has never done before. He's now just pacing by ...

Re: Change of behaviour
Luckily Merlin has been moved into another class for his IMDT training now (apparently he's advanced... When he wants to be ), but because of how stressed he was around the boxer I was considering asking if I could delay until next intake. I hid around the corner with him on sat hoping he would...
