Re: messing indoors
Hi, I'm no expert, so I's suggest posting the question on the dog training board where more people can see it and offer suggestions. There's also a thread about housetraining stickied there that offers the best method. When you post, offer as much detail as you can about the dogs daily routine. Food...

Re: Possessiveness and other problems.
Aaaww! Sending even more cyber hugs! It's awful when your baby is hurt. I know how upsetting it is and my heart goes out to you guys and the little fella, but remember that he will be right as rain in no time, in fact, he'll probably get over it quicker than you guys will! Not much comfort though, I...

Re: puppy socialisation! What do you wish your dog had seen?
I'm gonna blame the fact I didn't think of that on the fact that I have a new puppy and a houseful of animals, so I'm tired... *ahem*. Yep, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it!

Re: puppy socialisation! What do you wish your dog had seen?
Hmm, might have to make that two tubes of Primula... my older dog adores cheese, he thinks it's the best thing in the world. If Pixie is getting some and he isn't, I'll have a whole new bunch of behavioural problems to deal with! Starting to think I might need to wear some kind of tool belt around t...

Re: puppy socialisation! What do you wish your dog had seen?
Awesome idea, thanks! If I can stop the family eating the Primula first (better warn them the dog will have licked it! :D ) My older cat, Leo, is very mellow and will just stay out of her way. He'll climb or dash through the room she's in, or yell for me to come and carry him (he's a very dog-like c...

Re: puppy socialisation! What do you wish your dog had seen?
Thank you for all the helpful advice guys! I think I'm trying so hard to be the best 'mom' that I can be, that I lost sight of what was really important. Even the vets give out a "socialisation checklist" of things to expose the puppy to, but don't actually teach you how to handle the situ...

Re: Possessiveness and other problems.
Ooohhh poor baby! I'm so sorry that this happened to him and to you guys! I feel your pain. My dog was attacked by a staffie in October and had to have the wound in his shoulder stitched. I wasn't the one walking him when it happened but still felt guilty that I couldn't protect him (I doubt I could...

puppy socialisation! What do you wish your dog had seen?
Hi, I'm currently socialising my 14 week old Springer/terrier, Pixie. Today was her first day out with her not being carried since her vaccinations are all complete, and I'm trying to cover as many bases as I can while she's still in that (oh so short) critical period. I took Pixie home when she was...

Re: Hello to all! Introduction thread
Hey! Thanks for the response :-D I've been enjoying reading around the boards, and I'm learning a lot already. I've always used positive training methods with the dogs we've had throughout my life, but I didn't realise just how out of date a lot of my knowledge is. Don't get me wrong, I didn't use a...

Re: Fear of vacuum management
This is a random suggestion in a way because it may well have just been an utter fluke, it I'll just tell the story of how it worked for my dog and others can take from that what they will. Jack is a 6 year old Springer/Cocker cross, and I've had him since he was a puppy. He has always been scared o...

Re: Pup eats EVERYTHING..
I just want to add that there is a good chance that puppy might well grow out of that habit to an extent. My Springer/Cocker cross was terrible for grabbing objects like that when out on walks, things like stones! And any litter that was around was like a magnet for him. Luckily we didn't have any s...

Re: Hi, my name is Linda
I'm not a dog trainer, so my advice is amateur only I'm afraid, based on psych knowledge of positive reinforcement and experience with dogs. The problem with poop eating is that it's a natural behaviour. The only real way to stop it that I can see, is to restrict the opportunities by picking up afte...

Hello to all! Introduction thread
Hi to all! I've been a fan of Victoria's work for many years, but have only just discovered the forums. I have a feeling that I'll be needing a lot of support and advice over the coming months as I've just got my first puppy, and she's settling into a multi-pet household! My name is Jasmine, I'm a m...
