Re: dog puttingf his chin on another dogs' back...
I don't believe I was a bad human for not preventing the other dog being pinned down. I didn't allow it, I didn't know it was going to happen or I would have stepped in before. The dog that he wasn't rude with was a female golden retriever of similar age and size. We spoke to the owner and asked if ...

dog putting his chin on another dogs' back...
Hi guys I have a 5 year old collie/gsd mix at the moment who came into foster 3 days ago. He's a gentle quiet lad who likes to go walking and play ball, great with people and kids. His previous owners rarely had him off lead around dogs due to so called 'aggression' with some dogs and had him muzzle...

Re: Foster Dogs?
BuddhaMom... don't feel guilty. I'm sure you helped the dogs out as much as you could do at the time. Maybe in the future you'll be in a better position to be able to foster. 8) Anna... I also got into fostering to gain hands on experience with dogs. It's proved to be very educational. We get attach...

Re: Foster Dogs?
hi nightsrainfall. I've fostered dogs for nearly 2 years, from 2 chihuahuas to mastiffs. It can be very rewarding seeing them have fun in a home but very stressful also when things don't go smoothly. The rescue I foster for is great and we all work together and do what's best for the dogs. I have ha...

Re: a quick question about clicker training
Personally I don't use a clicker for teaching a recall. I just reward the dog when the arrive at my feet and then send them away againto play or sniff. I start at a very short distance in a low distraction environment with something in my hand that the dog really really likes and encourage them to c...

Re: Need help with rescued dog
Your dog reminds me of a collie cross I fostered a while back. He was terrified of everything too. Bottles, brushes, tape measures, lamp posts, chairs, dogs, people, noises, everything. It was heartbreaking to see. He was also 2 years old and we knew that for the entire 2 years he had been kept in a...

Re: Begging Dog
If he's jumped up while you wern't looking and managed to get a mouth full of food, he's had success so he's gonna keep trying. Dogs are natural scavengers and when they find a method that works, bingo!!

Re: Chihuahua questions...
we're hoping to move to australia so won't be keeping any of the dogs :( plus....there's always another one needing to come into rescue to find a new home. So far we've fostered around 25 and virtually every one has brought tears when it's time to say bye but it's nice knowing the next one is gettin...

Re: Chihuahua questions...
they wouldn't take much hiding  we've got a baby gate on the lounge that can be swung across the stairs so i'll make sure they don't go up and down on their own. They both sleep upstairs in our bedroom in a large crate big enough for a mastiff. They have beds at the back and blankets everywhere...

oh poor lad. It's about 5 degrees here at the moment but I can imagine them getting cold after being in the rain for a while. My wife is picking up some thermal coats as we speak. How much exercise did you give yours each day? I've read a few sites saying a half hour per day is enough but it doesn't...

Re: How to stop 6 month old puppy from marking
just regards neutering at his age, our vet neuters from 6 months onwards and will only advise to wait until the dog is older if he is is a little low in confidence to give the testosterone a chance to help boost his confidence a bit. If the dog is confident at 6 months, he'll happily neuter. I asked...

Re: Chihuahua questions...
Hi Cashchunn. Thankyou for your advice. They are very big characters in very small bodies aren't they. These two are currently playing tug of war over an old doggy draught excluder. Nessa wants it up on the couch, Chico wants it on the floor. They're great friends and great to watch. I'll ask the ve...
