Re: Doggie Dandruff

That would be an effective technique whether my dog likes it or not, I'm sure

Re: Dog VS. Vacuum

Stormcarver, I will try your suggestion. Thank you. I do live alone so, it's hard to have him out of the house while I do this chore. But like I said, even when I've had him on a different level of the house he barks as soon as he hears the machine running. It's just odd to me that this would be so ...

Re: Doggie Dandruff

Hi Emmabeth. She is kept indoors and I have humidifiers every where. I do brush her regularly too - she just has a very thin, short coat so, not much to brush or deshed. The last few days her coat hasn't been bad since the weather has warmed up a bit (it's a whopping 20 degrees now!). But just letti...

Dog VS. Vacuum

One of my dogs, a golden retriever/lab mix, who will be two years old later this month, is perfect in every way except one. He goes crazy around the vacuum! I understand this is common but it's not just when the vacuum is turned on though. If he sees it or if I touch it he stares it down and barks a...

Doggie Dandruff

Hi. One of my dogs is having a rough time with doggie dandruff this winter. It's been almost unbearably cold and dry all month (mostly single digits if not below zero) and it's showing on her short, single layer coat. Any suggestions on what to do? I'd like a topical solution of some sort to soothe ...

Thanks for the reply. They're actually really good about self control at all other times, food, walks, even approaching the dog park. Do you think because I so inconsistently have people over that actually is contributing to why they are extra excited? Like, the surprise of someone's arrival builds ...

Jumping Only on Guests Coming to Door

I have two lab mixes, aged one and two. I really need help figuring out how to train them not to jump on house guests. This is the only scenario when, the second they hear the doorbell or a knock, they immediately stop paying attention to my commands. They run to the door, begin barking and when I m...

I can't imagine how hard this has been on you. I hope the lead you have works out for you. I know if I were in your shoes I would take her in, if anything, just to allow more time to find new owners (preparing my house and my family the best I could) if I had exhausted all other possibilities. Perso...

Thanks, Maximoo. I will try both the chain lead suggestion (why didn't I think of that??) and the car training techniques. I do currently stop the car the second she stands up but....that's not always easy in the midst of driving. By the time I get out of traffic to stop sometimes, she's just sat do...

Are there any animal rescues that deal specifically with senior pets? I volunteer for one such rescue here in Illinois but I don't know where you are located. How long do you have to find a new home?

Regarding the bed situation, maybe I'll try a pillow. I have let him up on the bed before with my other dog (which is my own fault but they're good cuddlers!) I just don't want either of them there all night so, I've been crating them since they were pups. I would like to allow them on the bed but.....

Need car restraint and dog bed suggestions

Hi there. I am looking for recommendations for two things. One, I have a 90 pound golden retriever/lab mix who I crate at night. Currently, he lays on a very thin mat but I would like to get him something with more cushion for his joints now that he's grown so much (he's just one). 1. is that really...

Thank you for the suggestions and sorry I have not been able to reply quickly. I have stayed over at my parents house with the dogs and my female still had anxiety when I left. Of course, like you said, it might not have been enough to make her comfortable without me at that point. As for exercise, ...

Thanks. I have considered that but everyone who's volunteered to watch them prefers to stay at their house. Which I understand because they are then comfortable and with their belongings. I am trying to figure out a solution to this soon though since I will be undergoing surgery in about a month and...
