Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Apparently so long as you muzzle your dog its ok to let them sprint across the park and attack other dogs leaving the other dog squealing in absolute terror... Or at least thats what a 'lovely' gentlemen thought today when his Lurcher bolted and went for Merlin. Merlin runs away, he doesn't fight ba...

Re: What she loves about them

Mental stimulation will tire a dog out more. Maybe the owner she spoke to has worked up her dogs stamina so much that he can do 4 walks a day, as that will happen when you continually try and match their physical exercise requirements. Thing about human long distance runners, they train and train an...

Re: What she loves about them

Yay! They really are beautiful dogs. When you visit the walk let me know if you notice any on the smaller side, I am still considering one myself but 18kg is probably the size limit. I don't want another Merlin flattening incident!

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Would Bax enjoy some 1 to 1 training / doggy sports? I think I remember reading he had quite the drive to kill chickens, maybe he'll blossom doing some doggy sports. Lots of people with underconfident dogs take part, so I am sure a good trainer would be well versed in helping Bax be comfortable.

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Great news! His ligament is fully healed, he just has soft tissue damage now but he can go back to his normal activity! Xray and drawer tests came back fine! Apparently he guarded his vet cage this time (didn't when he was neutered). I don't blame him though, he's been through the ringer there. Migh...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Took Mr Barkyface to the vets, and the vet wanted to keep him in for xrays. 3 weeks of intermittent skipping and general soreness that is showing no signs of improvement, though some of those weeks he was still off lead sprinting around (before we took him in, and then after the initial 3 days when ...

Will tune in, though I can already guess the winner... Damn Labs!

I'm expecting Huskys, Pugs, Frenchies and all the other fashionable breeds to be up there. If I see a German Spitz, even at number 100, I'll be happy!

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

Some people think all dogs love them. Most of the time they are older men in my experience. Stuck in their ways. Merlin has a great tactic for people who want to stroke him off lead. Off lead Merlin couldn't care less about people, even me, because the world is amazing. When people see him run...

Re: What are you and your dogs up to today? Part 2

I can only agree with your OH on his assessment, Judy, sighthounds can be a bit raptory! There was this greyhound giving her owner the runaround in the park one day (I knew both dog and owner) because the greyhound liked this Collie on a lead. He was chasing her to get her back, it wasn't working, t...

Re: What she loves about them

You might also need to consider that lots of Spitz owners could answer 'oh no he doesn't bark much' but they tend to say that in relation to Spitz dogs they've owned. I know a Japanese Spitz owner who talks about how quiet her dog is... Thats only because she's always had Samoyeds. Ask what ot...

Re: What she loves about them

They supposedly bark only when they need to, but only an owner of them can really give you that answer. I would consider one myself but they are just too big for Merlin, concerned he'd get pushed around. Incidently Finnish Lapphunds were reindeer herders too! Its the reason they bark - so the ...
