Re: for or against shock collar
I think I would say it a little differently . Adversive methods such a shock collars are LEGAL. And people do achieve some measure of success using them. But just because they are legal or produce results does that mean that they should be used? I could think of many situations other than dog traini...

Puppies and bones
We have a five-month-old mix breed puppy, American Staffordshire terrier Rottweiler and box. He has plenty of chew toys but so far we haven't bought him any bones to chew on because we were afraid his teeth maybe too soft. He loves to chew on sticks outside and even seems to prefer them to his chew ...

Crate dilemma
We have a mixed breed puppy who is now five months old. American Staffordshire terrier Rottweiler and boxer . When we got him we bought a crate and guessed at the size. We thought we were getting a crate large enough that he would grow into it but now it turns out that he's actually starting to outg...

Re: Allowing people to pet my puppy
I'm with you I'm not letting my dog ran up to other people. I want him to know that he needs my permission. Course jumping up is a no no. Treats to always come for me, with the occasional strategic exception.
I didn't realize what that site is for, I thought it was a regular dog training site

Allowing people to pet my puppy
I came across this article http://leerburg.com/whopetspuppy.htm Am I wrong or is this bizarre? I want my puppy to get used to as different types of people as possible. Of course, always under my supervision/permission and with plenty of treats. But it seems to me that it would be asking for trouble ...

Re: Walking puppies
That's what I am seeing here and other places. He's a great puppy and we want to keep him healthy so we'll keep the walks short and wait a bit before taking him on a hike. Thanks

Re: Walking puppies
What about hiking? We like to hike occasionally. Do we wait until he is fully grown (14 to 18 months, I guess) before we take him? It is going to feel really weird going for a hike and leaving our dog at home.

Walking puppies
I have a 4 month old mixed breed dog. Not positive of the breeds but he is over 30 lbs now with huge paws. I have a question about taking him for walks. I have been walking him for 20 + minutes each morning. Our trainer says not to take more that 5 minute walks because his muscles are not developed ...
