Re: New rescue, anxious established dog

As someone with an anxious, rather anti-social dog as well I've learned a few tricks to introduce her with dogs she's unfamiliar with. My first suggestion is walking the dogs together. You stated that Wero is a puller, so my best advice is really work hard on mastering the walk before you try this. ...

Re: My rescue dog is getting aggressive

A lot of people have given you some really great advice and suggestions! But in respects to your roommate, I have a few more suggestions. :) Think about what your roommate is thinking when they are in the same room with the dog. Are they thinking, "This dog hates me, he is making me paranoid in...

Barking at strangers when on leash

Once again, my dog develops a sudden issue, I swear it's a talent of hers. Just this last week, when walking she has started picking up the habit of barking at any males. Particularly when we are walking at night (It's still boiling during the day where i'm at). I can't quite place the exact trigger...

Re: Help before i loose my partner or dog

As for the noise, we need a few more details to really help you out. How much exercise does he get in a day? When does he eat? How often is he taken out? Etc. the more details the better! Also remember, he is a dog not a human. Dogs are just being dogs, they aren't naughty or trying to bother you. T...

Re: Help before i loose my partner or dog

First off, any steps in the right direction are a success! You are making progress whether you can see it or not. Puppies have a max of about 4 hours that they can be in a crate while sleeping before needing to potty. When you go outside make the entire experience calm. Open the cage door quietly, a...

Re: HELP! I have a chewer!

I tell yah, puppies put wood chippers in serious threat! Chewing is often a sign of pent up energy and stress. Nine hours a day in a create is about at least 5 too many in a row! As a fellow small dog owner myself (havanese/shitzu/poodle/something fuzzy), I know that they may look small but they hav...

Re: Fear of car

My latest rescue came to me with a fear of the car, particularly from getting hit by one so it's understandable. Work up to getting your dog to comfortably walk to the car and get in with little to no assistance from you if possible. I'm assuming your already to this point, or have the basic concept...

Re: Sudden shyness

Thank you so much, I was starting to really beat myself up thinking I had done something wrong. Your post inspired me to bust out my long lead and take her for long walks during the "dog hour", and let her interact with the neighborhood dogs she has already met without mom being right ther...

Sudden shyness

As of a few weeks ago, my year and half old Havanese/Shitzu (Thats our best guess of the moment) went a dog park for the first time. Wink is normally the first dog to quietly meet any dog or human at any point in time. Head low, tail wagging and normally lays down politely so even babies can pet her...

Re: Fixing the "Freeform" Walk

Hi! Recently we adopted a dog who behaved exactly the same when there as any form of leash tension. The best way we found to help ease her tension was to start putting the leash on her at random times throughout the day for extended periods of time, even if we weren't going for a walk. Being overly ...

Hi everyone!

Re: Loose Lead walking

I find it's best to have a heel word and a separate word for potty time. For example, my new rescue puppy (age 1, named Wink) is being conditioned to the idea that the walk as two parts. Walking, and potty time. When it's walking, I will say heel and walk along and it's her job to remain calmly besi...
