Re: Growling puppy
Thanks for the advice! Hopefully it won't be a problem anymore ill just be careful to give her space like you said. And nah the wisdom tooth thing isn't too bad. I'm a pansy when it comes to pain of any sort but they don't hurt much at all and I'm lucky to have nicki to take care of me.

Re: Growling puppy
My friend was not wearing anything unusual or really even bothering my pup nicki at all. I had my wisdom teeth out the other day and so was keeping nicki in an ex pen beside me since i couldnt keep an eye on her roaming around the house from the couch. I've had her since she was 8 weeks old and she ...

Growling puppy
Hi I have an 11 month old show type yellow lab. She's normally extremely well behaved but several recent incidents have worried me a lot to say the least. Yesterday, when a family friend who the pup has known her entire life came over, she growled at her. It wasn't meant to be an aggressive growl, s...

Re: Pup eats EVERYTHING..
Is he by any chance a lab? They're notorious for chewing. When mine was a younger puppy she managed to swallow almost an entire leash and to chew the rubber off the bottom of her dishes and swallow it. My vet recommended feeding her 1-2 tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide when she swallows something to...

Cat and dog chasing
My 10 month old lab puppy has been well socialized and trained from the start and is usually never distracted by anything. However, she's recently decided that chasing cats and other dogs is great fun. Does anyone know how to teach her not to? She already knows all basic obedience commands as well a...

Re: labs
Can't say I agree with the above description of English or show labs. I have one and gave found them to be far more intelligent and trainable than their American or field counterpart. As for being dodgy with other dogs- mine loves other dogs and has never been unfriendly with one.

Re: Labrador Retrievers?
Labs are truly the best dogs. I refuse to own any dog but a lab. They're friendly with everyone, cheerful, and the easiest breed in my opinion to train. However like any breed they do have their cons. Even with daily brushing mine sheds a lot. Like imagine snowdrifts of fur. We took her to the vet b...

Re: Choke, prong and shocks can cause diseases
Wow I didn't realize using a prong collar on my dog could cause so much damage. Guess ill try and train her without one and see how it goes.

Re: Interesting Discussion re: choke chains
I try to take a balanced approach to dog training- not entirely positive reinforcement based but certainly without some of the very cruel correction based training techniques. I have to agree though that choke collars are downright cruel and are so often used improperly it makes you cringe for the p...

Re: Dog getting on people, tables, and counters
I've been through the same situation myself. I would invest in a prong collar and learn to properly use one. While carefully watching her, attach a leash to the collar and allow her to drag it. As she starts to jump before she's actually on the counter say off. If she stops reward her. If she still ...

Re: Considering an e-collar
E collars are quite harsh and can be damaging to a dog. I've seen them used but really wouldn't recommend one. Instead I would purchase a prong collar and have either someone at the pet store or a dog trainer explain how to use it. If used properly, a prong collar can help to curb a number of bad be...
