Re: Pawz dog boots

I had a pack of red ones once, and because Oreo's feet are white, they were tinged an interesting shade of red after she sweats through her paw pads. I didn't like the way it was colouring her paws and hate it even more when she started licking her paws after that. I like Nettle's idea of just using...

Any way to make your dog drink water?

As the saying goes, we can lead a horse to the water but we can't make it drink. Thing is, Ms O my dog gave me yet another scare today with bouts of vomiting and diarrhoea again. Worse still, her vet is not in town till Thursday, so I'm on my own until then. Apart from a teeny little wee this mornin...

Re: Itchy ear

I had Honey back at the vet this morning and she is doing much better. There's still a little bit of head shaking and ear scratching but much reduced. She going to stay on AB's for another week and then I'll bring her back for another check. She's much better in herself so it does seem that there a...

Re: Copious poop?

Thanks everyone! It's just poop but I'm reassured and I've learnt a lot, I must say! On the day after she binges, she really poops a lot, so much that my mother who's at home all day will take pictures of the poop and send them to me, with messages along the line of "your dog has pooped t...

Re: Copious poop?

No, they don't store energy - or poop. They store fat if they are getting more food than they need. Otherwise as I said above - she is new to this, she has been quite ill in the past, and her system is adjusting. Relax. :) Thanks! Relax, that I truly need! =P Just to confirm though, Oreo's ch...

Re: Copious poop?

Hello, thanks for the replies! It really puts me at ease! But I have a sudden realisation - every time after a huge raw meal, she'll have lots and lots to poop the following day. and it will persist for the next few days. the other day, I just about panicked, and decided to just give her a 24 hour f...

Copious poop?

Yes, this is going to be a poop post.... :P So my dog, after having been on a cooked chicken, potato and wheatgrass diet for a while after her last health scare was switched back to raw chicken, honest kitchen preference (I only feed about a tablespoonful before rehydration) and wheatgrass diet. She...

Re: Are you familiar with this vet?

Oh and I've sent a hair test of for Ted but it's a £25 test (PD's are much more expensive I think), I'll let you know how that goes when it comes back. http://www.holisticremediesuk.co.uk/info.htm Ooh... The website's a little scanty, but I must say, this test sounds good. If money is in neverendin...

Are you familiar with this vet?

So I got a complimentary 15 min consult with Dr Peter Dobias because some time back, I was given a Hair Q test and I had it done on Oreo. It's quite interesting. Since Oreo has such an exciting medical history in her short 2 years of life, I thought it would be good to get a 2nd opinion from this ve...

Re: Are we moving a few steps back?

Thanks Nettle! Our vet is indeed brilliant! That's where the dilemma lies in a way, I guess... I've been asking her every week, can we go back to raw yet? She's like, "why are you so hung up on getting her back on raw food?" I can't quite answer her apart from what I've mentioned (and the ...

Are we moving a few steps back?

So Oreo had another bout of crazy vomiting and diarrhoea few weeks back that landed her back in the hospital to be put on an IV drip for 3 days. After that, her vet put her on a cooked chicken breast meat (I cheated, sometimes I give chicken drumstick, wing and other meaty parts too), potato, papaya...

Re: How should I treat an abscess?

Can you get homeopathic Hepar sulph? It's brilliant for abscesses. I give orally and at the same time poultice the abscess with honey/lavender/anything else I have to hand. I have it! 1 30c pellet? Will try it in the morning after the girl gets up! It's storming here, but she's sleeping through the...

How should I treat an abscess?

So Oreo had an antibiotic injection about a month back for a bad infection she had. She turned out to be allergic to the medication :? and the skin on the injection site became necrotic. The skin eventually sloughed off about a week back, leaving behind a hole that was healing. It appeared to be hea...

Re: Feeding raw frozen?

Thanks guys! I gave Miss O a frozen chicken that day and I nearly died laughing. I don't think I will feed her too much frozen raw from now on. She got through about 2/3s of a chicken (that's about 800g) when her daily ration is only about 150g. Chopping up her food to portions is not really an opti...
