Re: He hates walks

The non-pull harness I use is a sporn one. It's got a mesh with soft elastic running through it and there's covering on it so it's more comfortable on the legs and it's an easy fastener no fiddling about with those 3 pronged clips. He is stubborn and I think walks around traffic do stress him out. H...

He hates walks

Hi, My little Jack Russell/ Border Terrier cross is now almost 9 months old. I have problems with walking him. I walk him on a non-pull harness (which doesn't work). When I get his harness out he runs away from me and it ends in me chasing him and getting annoyed. He doesn't like me actually putting...

Feeding times

Hi I was re-reading the chapter on feeding in Victoria's book. She says she finds dogs do best on 2 meals a day. I feed my puppy (7 months) 2 meals a day at the minute and intend to keep it that way due to him being a small dog. Victoria recommends the second meal of the day at 4pm, but doesn't ment...

Puppy chasing older dog

Hello I've had some wonderful support and advice on this board so far and hoping you could help me once more. There are 2 dogs in my house. One of them being a 4 year old border terrier Gromit (not-neutered) and a 7 month old jack russell/ border terrier cross (neutered). Mac came to our house at ju...

Re: I have a question about Victoria's First Book

I can really recommend this book. I downloaded it from Amazon for my kindle and I found it very helpful. At the minute I am waiting for a waist bag to arrive so I can start teaching Mac commands with hand signals as well as voice.

Best kibble

Hi I've currently got Mac on Royal Canin. However I want him off of it after discovering that there's 20% fat in it (which I think is too much). Can anyone recommend a good brand of food that is reasonably priced and good for dogs that scratch a lot? I regularly flea Mac so it's not fleas causing hi...

Put your dad in the choke chain and see if he likes it, just a thought.

Re: Ragging feet and carpet chewing

Mac can wander downstairs freely so the carpet chewing happens when he sneaks out the front room into the hallway. Even if I see him leave the room and follow him he still blatantly starts chewing the carpet. I crate him with his beloved monkey when I go out and he spends his time snoozing. Hayley x

Ragging feet and carpet chewing

Hi My puppy Mac is now 7 months old. His training is going well (thanks to Victoria's book). I'm still having a few issues though. Firstly Mac likes to rag on my feet when I'm walking around the house. He will also rag people feet if they are sat down and have one leg crossed over the other, I've tr...

Training suggestion: horrified

Hello, I am having a few issues with my puppy at the moment. The main issues I have are him ragging on my slippers every time I walk around the house and chewing small holes in the carpet where it joins onto a step. It's a pain and I would very much welcome some advice on how I can eliminate these i...

Re: Too late to start training?

Thank you for all the replies. I've bought Victoria's book for the kindle and it is a very interesting read so far. I'm already thinking dog when Mac does something. I'm already becoming more aware of his personal space and he seems to want to come to me for a fuss more than ever now that I leave hi...

Too late to start training?

Is seven months old too late to start training a puppy? I have suffered a bout of bad health after getting my puppy so his training has been neglected. Now I'm back on form and really want to train him to his full potential.

Distractions

I have been using +R for training Mac. Now he seems to have learnt sit when it's just me and him, but if there's anyone else there he just gets a bit too excited and doesn't seem to listen is this normal? I have been brought up with dogs but Mac is the first dog who is just mine and I'm responsible ...
