Thanks Nettle. He's only 2.5 years old, but we do have a water pump that makes noise at regular intervals. You're probably right - I was just worried it was something other than noises bothering him.

Re: Pacing Dog
Oh! A couple of things I forgot to mention. On the few occassions I've managed to coax him out the back door (just in case he wanted to go "wee wee" or scare a kangaroo away), he's just sat politely on the other side of the screen door looking back at me, like he's kinda confused about why...

Pacing Dog
Hi Guys, I've only posted questions here a couple of times but have found the advice given infinitely valuable, so I'm here again. I have two dogs and one of them, Brian (the staffy), has started pacing at night. A lot... And I can't figure out why. I can't sleep when he paces and I worry about him,...

Mattie... thank you so much for the can-do attitude, it has really helped my confidence in dealing with the situation. I'll do my best to implement everything you have mentioned! It all makes sense. I guess I will have to juggle it all, along with training puppy because from what we know and have be...

2/ Pups pee frequently. You have to expect that you will be getting up during the night to let him out for a pee for ... well, probably the first couple of months. He's young and can't hold it in all day or night yet! 3/ I'm having a little problem like this at the moment except mine is more agressi...

When I got my first dog, he would ONLY sleep on the bed. I'm not kidding! He was adopted from the pound and really needed to bond, so while I didn't want him in the habit of sleeping on my bed, I made an exception for the first 3-4 weeks [which was advised via members of this forum]. Once he had set...

Sorry it has taken me a couple of days to reply! We don't have episodes of It's Me Or The Dog airing in Australia at the moment, so unfortunately I'm not up to speed! Chips has always been good on doggy play dates. There's 3 other staffies that Chips spends time with on a regular basis (at least onc...

I wonder if it is just the frustration of being restrained? One of my dogs, Chips, is a little like this. He is fine running loose around yards with other dogs. He will even get right in there and play rough with staffies (he's only a JRT X). BUT if we see another dog while on a walk, he growls and ...

I was just discussing this behaviour with a friend of mine who has a little terrier (maltese x, I think). He was telling me that his dog, Ernie, appeared to discover that he can get more attention (and sympathy) if he limps. John actually watched Ernie one day. He was walking around the house just f...

Introducing a second dog to our home.
Hi Everyone, I first became a member of this forum about 12 months ago, when I adoprted a JRT X called "Chips" from a shelter and the advice I received here was unbelievably helpful. So, here I am again! Almost 3 weeks ago, we adopted a second dog - a 9 month old staffy called "Brian&...

Squee, what a cutie!! I'm having similar problems (re: peeing) with my dog, who is a bit older. I think previous owners had trained him to hold it in for HOURS and to only let it out when we go for a walk. I've had to work on getting him to go in the backyard because I can't always take him around t...

I did a quick google and this is the first thing I found... apparently it is OK to desex from 8weeks old as long as the pup is at least 2lbs in weight.
