When Sadie first came into my life four years ago, she was what I would call a reactive dog, lunging towards and barking viciously at any dog that walked past or came close to her. Fortunately I was able to temper her reaction and teach her a new way to cope and behave in similar situations. The techniques I used meant I could change her behavior without physically punishing or imposing my will upon her in any way. I just gave her choices.

My Yorkie Cross greets visitors by barking at them but as soon as they sit down he is up on their lap for pampering. However when they get up to leave, he becomes aggressive, barks and goes for their shoes and trouser bottoms. This scares them (and me too) and I would like to know what I can do to stop this. I could take him out of the room or put him on a lead when they are ready to go, but this is not the answer. Can you please advise what I should do. I have your excellent book It's Me or the Dog and watch you on TV - always superb!!
